Please post details of any wine that you think members might find worth trying for their 2009 Christmas.
Those available from supermarkets in Cockermouth, Workington, Whitehaven, Keswick and Wigton are particularly helpful.

We buy most of our wines by mail order but we have had very good wines from Shills in Cockermouth. Those we have tasted that would work for Christmass lunch are:

Fizz: Delamotte or Brun Reserve PC Champagne
Still: Yealands Riesling, Viognier or Sauvignon Blanc
Turkey: Innocent Bystander Chardonnay or Shaw and Smith Shiraz, the latter especially if there are lots of savoury trimmings.
Cheese: depends which cheese of course but the Pfister Vendange Tardive Gewurtztraminer is versatile and excellent

Not from Shills but the only wine for me with Christmas pud is a Rutherglen Muscat.

Thanks for those suggestions.

I've now got my list of 8 wines to taste on Saturday -

2 from Booths, 2 from Sainsburys, 2 from Shills, 1 from Aldi and 1 from most supermarkets!

Anyone who'd like to come along - its only £8 (including some nibbles) at the All Hallows Community Centre, Fletchertown.

It would help me if you could give me a call or email to say you're coming.
